The Systems Engineering Department offers two resident Masters Level degrees and one PhD degree. NPS is mission funded to provide tuition-free graduate education to active duty naval officers (USN and USMC), on a space available basis. Additional course fees may be required. All others need to be financially sponsored by their command or company.
Systems Engineering Masters Program, MSSE (580)
The Masters in Systems Engineering (MSSE) program is an ABET accredited program primarily serving the Navy Engineering Duty Officer (EDO) community.
Requirements: Baccalaureate Degree, Overall GPA of at least 2.20, and course grades of C+ or better in both a complete calculus sequence and a complete calculus-based physics sequence. Additional courses in matematics, physical sciences and engineering are highly desirable.

Systems Engineering Analysis Masters Program, SEA (308)
The Masters in Systems Engineering Analysis (SEA) program is jointly offered bythe Systems Engineering Department and the Operations Research Department. The SEA program is intended to equip officers in the surface, aviation, and submarine warfighter communities to become naval leaders able to address the complex tactical, operational, and even strategic problems facing the Navy.
Requirements: Baccalaureate Degree, Overall GPA of at least 2.20, and course grades of C+ or better in at least one calculus course and one calculus physics course. Additional courses in matematics, physical sciences and engineering are highly desirable.

Systems Engineering PhD Program, (581)
The Systems Engineeing Department of the Naval Postgraduate School offers study and research leading to the award of the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Systems Engineering. The Ph.D. degree involves required coursework, comprehensive qualifying examinations, and a research-based dissertation. The Ph.D. degree may be persued via resident or hybrid study (distance learning plus periodic temporary residence).
