Abstract

Today’s electricity supply mix is determined more by a series of events rather than any prescribed policy or plan. Speaker will discuss the impact of those events on the current electricity supply and the challenges suppliers face in determining the energy choices of the future while navigating their way through environmental regulation, state preferences and market constructs while providing appropriate returns for shareholders.

Biography

William Levis recently retired as the President and COO of PSEG Power, a wholesale provider of electricity which operated a diversified fleet of power generation stations of different types and fuel sources including nuclear, gas, oil, coal and solar. (PSEG is a diversified energy company headquartered in Newark, N.J. Established in 1903, the company has long had a key role in fueling New Jersey's economy and supporting the state's quality of life.) This culminated a 40-year career in the power generation business, which began after his graduation (with distinction) from the Naval Academy and active duty assignment on a fast attack 637-class submarine. Following his assignment, he left active duty and had a number of increasingly responsible positions in the commercial nuclear business holding senior management positions at five different plants. He also obtained his professional engineer’s license, and was certified as a Senior Reactor Operator.

Mr. Levis continued his service in the Naval Reserves, serving as Commanding Officer of two units eventually retiring as a Commander. He has served on the Executive Committee of the Nuclear Energy Institute, the Board of Directors at NEIL, the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations National Nuclear Accreditation Board, and the Arch Bishop of Philadelphia Catholic Charities Appeal Board.
