Incoming Student Information

This page serves as a resource for incoming students whose attendance at an "In-Residence" course has already been confirmed by CCMR program coordinator.  Below, incoming students will find general information on course logistics including classroom locations, nearby restaurants, and local attractions.

For specific information on individual courses, including scheduling, hotel check-in, and other course-specific details, please contact your program coordinator.

CCMR headquarters is located at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California. Students can find directions to the NPS campus listed on the sidebar to the right of this page, along with a campus map that delineates the location of CCMR HQ.

If you are arriving by air and require ground transport to NPS, here are a few options:

•  Yellow Cab Taxi Service -- This is a private cab service that has been granted access to travel both to and within the NPS campus.  You can ask your driver to drop you and your baggage directly at the campus hotel entrance.  Telephone: 831-333-1234.  Most rides from NPS within the city of Monterey will cost about $10-$15 USD.
•  MST (Monterey-Salinas Transit) -- This is Monterey's option for public transit via bus, and there is a stop right outside of the main gate to NPS on Sloat Avenue (please note that you will then have to continue on foot to your hotel).
MST's main hub is in downtown Monterey at the Monterey Transit Plaza.
To find a preceise route, click "plan a trip," and enter your start address and destination address.
•  Ridesharing apps -- (i.e: Uber, Lyft, etc).  These require a cell phone with a data plan and a credit card to operate.  Drivers cannot enter NPS campus, but will drop you at the main gate to NPS on Sloat Avenue (please note that you will then have to continue on foot to your hotel).
•  Monterey Airbus -- If your flight is arriving or departing from an airport other than Monterey (MRY), such as San Francisco (SFO) or San Jose (SJC), a private bus system can take you  to Monterey.  This will cost $30-60 USD.  Please visit this website for a list of locations, pickup and drop-off times, and pricing:  http://www.montereyairbus.com/

NPS is an active and secure property of the United States Department of Defense.  Therefore, access to campus is restricted.

Your program coordinator will contact you before your course start date to collect some personal information, including your full name and passport number.  This information is used to place you on the "Gate Access List," a document that NPS security professionals will use to grant you access to campus.

When you proceed to the "Sloat Avenue Entrance" to NPS, you will be asked to present both your passport and a copy of your Invitational Travel Orders (ITO).  Please keep these documents on your person at all times while visting NPS, and they will be needed each time you plan to enter campus.

For more information on gate access, please click here or contact your program coordinator.
