In Memoriam: Richard Hoffman, CCMR Director
The CCMR team is sorry to report that our colleague, friend, and the leader of the Center for Civil-Military Relations, Director Rich Hoffman, passed away on Sunday, March 25th, 2018. Since joining NPS in in 1996, Rich has been a part of the NPS Center for Civil-Military Relations (CCMR), first as Executive Director, and as Director since 2004. As Director, he has overseen the development and implementation of the Center’s global education programs in Civil-Military Relations, Peacekeeping, Stability and Reconstruction Operations, and Defense Governance and Management. Rich’s leadership, vision, and direction are the foundation on which CCMR has been built, and he has had a direct impact on the lives of many NPS faculty members as a leader, mentor, friend, and colleague, and has impacted countless students in his 22 years on the NPS faculty.
While his loss will be felt deeply in NPS in the days ahead, the legacy of his leadership and service will continue on in the work of CCMR, across CCMR and NPS faculty, and particularly in those students and personnel that are engaged in executive education with CCMR.
“When logistics are not taken into account, the troops fail. Napoleon’s March is an example of this.” - Kathleen Peggar, IDARM program director, at an August workshop in #brazil???? on Defense Logistics and Life Cycle Cost Management. The course placed emphasis on the critical role of #logistics planning and #lifecycle considerations, to include the importance of #humancapital management and fostering accountability and transparency.
