NPS Welcomes New Students
By MC2 Michael Ehrlich
NPS Dean of Students Capt. Matthew Vandersluis delivers the opening remarks during NPS' New Student Orientation in King Auditorium, Dec. 29. NPS welcomed 160 new students from all branches of the military and 29 international officers from 14 different countries to its student body.
"People are our most valuable asset, and an NPS education immersed in research and critical thinking helps to take our force from tactical practitioners to strategic thinkers," said Vandersluis. "The research that NPS students participate in and the successful drafting of their theses gives them a lot of confidence when tackling future problems and issues."
Vandersluis also pointed to the opportunities for personal growth, family and friendship that NPS offers.
"[You] will make life-long friendships with fellow students and faculty. You will be intellectually challenged and graduate with an accredited and respected degree, and you will explore and fall in love with the Monterey Peninsula and its surrounding areas," said Vandersluis.
The incoming class was also invited to attend the Newcomers Welcome Aboard Fair, which will be held in Herrmann Hall's El Prado Room, Jan. 14 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
