Captain Bryan was raised in Seattle, Washington, and attended Jacksonville University in Florida, where he graduated with a BS in biology and an NROTC commission in 1995.

His tours at sea include Damage Control Assistant on USS INGRAHAM (FFG 61), Navigator on USS CHANDLER (DDG 996), Primary Warfare Officer/Undersea (ASW Officer) on the Norwegian frigate HNoMS BERGEN (F-301), Operations Officer on USS HALYBURTON (FFG 40) and XO on USS STOCKDALE (DDG 106).

Captain Bryan’s command tours include the Littoral Combat Ship prototype SEA FIGHTER (FSF-1), USS VANDEGRIFT (FFG-48), and the Fleet ASW Training Center.

Ashore, Captain Bryan served as the Director of Strike Group Training at the Undersea Warfighting Development Center (UWDC), and the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations, Plans and Policy on the staff of CSG-15. 

Captain Bryan also holds a Master of International Public Policy degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).
