Naval War College Celebrates 75th Graduating Class
By MC2 Michael Ehrlich
The 75th graduating class of the Naval War College (NWC) Monterey partnership with NPS for Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) stands for a group portrait on the steps of Herrmann Hall, June 7.
NWC Monterey faculty David Overton and Gregory Reilly presided over the ceremony where 96 U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Army officers earned their Command and Staff diploma with JPME Phase I certification for the Spring Quarter of 2018.
“I want to say congratulations to each and everyone one of you,” said Overton. “The result of your great dedication to the program is that you will return to the operational force expected to take on increased responsibilities and take on serving in key leadership roles.”
Through the partnership, 5,018 officers have earned JPME Phase I certification since the program’s inception in September 1999. Overton concluded his remarks with a note of advice and encouragement for the graduates.
“As you have learned to serve and elevate the roles you will be entering, there are a few points I want you to focus on,” Overton said. “Even with your level of education, training and experience … it is important to continue all aspects of education. I challenge you to follow up and continue to broader your perspective.”
