NPS announced the recipients of the command's Sailors of the Year awards during a ceremony in Herrmann Hall, Dec. 11. From left, Electronics Technician 1st Class Troy Sumaya earned the Senior Sailor of the Year award, Aviation Electronics Technician 1st Class Scott Froom earned Junior Sailor of the year, and Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Ward Winekauf earned Blue Jacket of the Year honors.

"It feels great to get recognition, but I definitely couldn't have done it without all my junior sailors," said Sumaya. "My advice to others is to keep your head up and keep trying. If you think you can achieve something, don't let anyone put you down and keep working toward your goals."

Froom agreed with Sumaya's advice and elaborated on how his time at NPS helped him recently promote to first class.

"NPS is a great opportunity for the enlisted staff to take on collateral duties and to volunteer," said Froom. "All of these opportunities make a well-rounded Sailor that is more likely to promote."
