Naval War College Monterey Honors Fall Quarter's Top JPME Grads

Professor Fred Drake, Chairman of the Naval War College (NWC) Monterey program, presents NPS student Lt. Cmdr. Rebeca Rodriguez with her Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) phase 1 certificate in Halligan Hall, Jan. 31. Rodriguez graduated from the JPME program "with Distinction," an honor earned by the top 15 percent of the class.

"On behalf of my faculty, what I want to say is thank you because your performance in the classroom really helps us get across all the points we needed to during this educational experience," said Drake. "We've tried to give you some tools to help you as you increase your responsibilities, and you continue to press on with your careers."

Recognized with highest distinction honors for completing the JPME program this past quarter in the top five percent of the class are Army Maj. Tanner Fleck, Navy Lt. Christopher J.R. McCook, Marine Corps Maj. Clifton N. Rateike, Army Capt. Michael D. Salazar, and Lt. Cmdr. Gerald V. Weers.

Recognized with distinction honors for completing the JPME program in the top 15 percent of the class are U.S. Navy Lts. John A. Bardenhagen III, Kevin R. Dougherty, Geoffrey A. Ellis, Caitlin E. Hewitt, and Mark T. Wilson; Lt. Cmdrs. James R. Crowe, Rebeca S. Rodriguez, Cassandra M. Sisti and John C. Van Dyke; U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Shane A. Bladen and Capt. Rachel E. Connon; and U.S. Army Majs. Michael S. Handlan, and Scott W. Orr.

Through the NPS-NWC partnership, a total of 4,554 officers have earned their Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) phase I certification since the program's inception in September 1999.
