Maintaining a Focus on Physical Fitness

NPS Department of Operations Research Military Faculty member Lt. Cmdr. Vince Naccarato is pictured in his Glasgow Hall office. In his role as the university's Command Fitness Leader, he's in charge of ensuring the Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) is properly conducted during its bi-annual cycles.
Naccarato is also responsible for training and supporting Assistant Command Fitness Leaders (ACFL) in running the Fitness Enhancement Program (FEP), and assisting students and staff with the necessary paperwork.
"At the end of the day, it's the member's responsibility to get their PFA and paperwork complete," said Naccarato. "My goal is to make sure we have a good program … I'll provide all of the resources I can to keep people in shape."
Naccarato says he enjoys getting into the gym with the ACFLs and participating in exercises. He would like to see more people join in.
"We're in the military, but my goal is to take a little bit of the militarized workout that you're used to seeing at boot camp or Officer Candidate School and we make it more like a mainstream gym," said Naccarato. "We're going to implement a lot of new things like bands and medicine ball, and we'll hit some of those muscles that you didn't know you had.
"We're lucky enough to have some really good certified physical trainers that work for Morale, Welfare and Recreation Fitness," he added. "They work close with us to run the Fitness Enhancement Program together."
