Prof. Afshon Ostovar, a recent addition to the NSA Department, has a piece titled “Soldiers of the Revolution: A Brief History of Iran’s IRCC” published in Foreign Affairs. In the article, he notes, “Because the IRGC is the author of Iran’s regional and strategic activities, understanding it and its motivations is more vital now than ever.” Dr. Ostovar has also recently published Vanguards of the Imam: Religion, Politics, and Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (Oxford University Press, 2016).
