An interview NSA’s Dr. Rodrigo Nieto Gomez did with the Monterey Weekly led to a featured interview with Vice Magazine. In the interview, Dr. Nieto Gomez, whose research is based on analyzing criminal entrepreneurship, discusses how Mexican drug cartels do not behave like the mafia in The Godfather; rather, they are “more akin to Silicon Valley, and the relationship with venture capitalists and startups.” In the article, he discusses aspects of entrepreneurship and innovations within the cartels and among youth in general in tougher areas. He speculates, “Maybe the next Steve Jobs is a girl in Oaxaca.”
