Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The Registrar and Admissions offices are located in the basement of Herrmann Hall, Room 022. We are near the Trident Room, down the hall from the dining room. Our hours are 8-4 Monday through Friday.
Diplomas and/or certificates are mailed approximately 90 days after graduation or completion of the certificate. An official copy of the transcript is also sent to the graduate.
To request a copy of your diploma please see instructions at this link.  Processing time is 5-7 business days.
E-mail the Registrar’s Office.  Once the letter is generated, you will receive an e-mail to pick it up.
We keep Nuclear Power School transcripts from 2001 and later.  Please submit a request through our online service at Parchment.com. Turnaround time is 5 business days. (Please note: by selecting this option, you will be leaving the NPS website)  For all other graduation years, contact Nuclear Power School directly.

NPS uses the term Quality Point Rating (QPR) in place of GPA.  The three QPRs at NPS are:

                  1. TQPR: Total Quality Point Rating. The Total QPR represents all graded NPS courses. Excludes Pass/Fail, Refresher and Nuclear Power School courses.

                  2. GQPR: Graduate Quality Point Rating. Courses numbered 3000 and above. A Graduate QPR of 3.0 or higher is required to graduate with a master's degree or Academic Certificate.

                  3. CQPR: Curriculum Quality Point Rating. Courses associated to a designated curriculum (or major). A Curriculum QPR of 2.75 or higher is required to graduate with a master's degree or Academic Certificate.

Students whose grades fall below a GQPR of 3.0 or CQPR of 2.75 will be placed on academic probation.

Usually, students who cannot see their grades in Python have either failed to complete a SOF, or the instructor has not submitted their grades into Python. Contact the Registrar’s Office if you have further questions.
The requestor must include the name of the person who will be picking up the transcript on his/her behalf. All document requests must come directly from the student via e-mail, fax, or mail.  Go to this link.
At this time we are unable to accept requests for transcripts over the phone.

All alumni who have graduated after 1986 can request to have a transcript sent to a military installation or government agency through our online service at Parchment.com. Turnaround time is 5 business days. (Please note: by selecting this option, you will be leaving the NPS website)

Alumni who graduated prior to 1987 must submit a request via email. Instructions.

If additional paperwork needs to be sent along with your request please include the type of documents in your e-mail/fax/or letter. Please e-mail forms as a PDF.
Mostly likely the course was not required for the completion of your degree and would have caused an irresolvable conflict. Also, all pending requests are dropped prior to scheduling, so you will need to resubmit your request once scheduling is locked.

Student SOF FAQs

Contact the Technology Assistance Center (TAC) and they can assist with username issues and resetting passwords. Inquire by phone (831) 656-1046 or via e-mail TAC@nps.edu. After the password has been reset, SOFs can be completed via Python.

1.  Log into Python.

2.  Under Student Folio tab, click My Matrix tab.

3.  Next to the correct academic year/quarter, you'll see the course numbers and SOF buttons. If one or more of your courses show an ABC button, then either an SOF is not required or your instructor has not yet submitted a grade.

4.  Click on each active Late SOF button and enter in responses as necessary.

5.  Once all SOFs have been completed and instructors have entered their grades into Python, your NPS Transcript will be available for review.

Every quarter, the SOF submittal period coincides with opening of the grade window on Monday, Week 11 and ends on Sunday, Week 12 (after graduation).

                Guidelines:

1.  Courses with less than 5 students do not require SOFs.

2.  If Python lists the Class Type as Seminar, Directed Study, or Thesis/Dissertation, then no SOF is required.

3.  If the SOF requirement for a course needs to be changed permanently (required or not required), email registrar@nps.edu.

Faculty SOF FAQs

SOF results are viewable once the grading window has closed and grades have been entered into Python for ALL students enrolled. To view SOFs: (a) Log in to Python. (b) Click on “Faculty Folio” then click “Teach Load”. (c) Click on the details button next to the correct AY, Qtr, and course. (d) The “Course Information” page will appear. Click on the “SOF Results” button. The “Student Opinion Forms Results” page appears.

After the grading window has expired, students’ written comments are only available for 90 days. Comments can be viewed only by the instructor and the instructor may delete a comment at any time. Comments are saved inside the Python database for one quarter and then deleted (requested by the Faculty Council).

The course may have been set to not require SOFs. Another possible reason is the grading deadline has not closed yet or you have not entered grades for ALL students enrolled. If more time is required to assign a grade for an individual student, enter an “I” grade. If SOFs were set to be required for the course and all students have been graded, then SOF results can be viewed. If you still cannot view your SOF results, contact registrar@nps.edu for assistance.

Students can view their grades only after they’ve submitted an SOF via Python and after the instructor has entered grades into Python.
