NPS Staff Sailors Recognized During Brief Ceremony

NPS staff Sailors, from left to right, Information Systems Technician 2nd Class Donte McCarthy, Yeoman 2nd Class Ana Ingram, Electronics Technician 2nd Class Donald Williams and Yeoman 3rd Class John Mark Rivera, were honored during an awards and quarters ceremony in front of the Naval Postgraduate School’s Herrmann Hall, Nov. 3.

Two of the awardees were honored as Sailors of the Quarter, recognizing their outstanding performance throughout the fourth quarter of 2017.

“It was such an honor for me to see that all my work and determination has been recognized in such a meaningful way,” said Rivera, who was awarded Blue Jacket of the Quarter for his performance as command administrative assistant. Rivera works in NPS Flag Admin department, where he provides customer service to over 200 staff, student and faculty members, assisting them with any and all of their PCS questions and concerns.

Williams was awarded Junior Sailor of the Quarter for providing keen insight and efficient management that directly led to the first-time successful installation and operational testing of a fixed Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) and an afloat EPIRB. He also served as the NPS Honor Guard Coordinator and Team Leader, and trained and managed 10 team members for 33 events.

Two of the awardees were presented the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal to reward their outstanding performances throughout their tours at NPS, which were coming to completion.

McCarthy, who arrived at NPS August 2014 and is scheduled to depart January 2018, oversaw the creation of 11 online self-help pages and the resolution of 5,340 trouble tickets, providing support for over 4,000 NPS students, faculty and staff. He was also commended for his role as education petty officer and assistant command fitness leader.

Ingram, who arrived at NPS March 2015 and is scheduled to depart December 2017, processed over 300 top-secret security clearance investigations and 50 bi-weekly sensitive compartmented information indoctrinations for NPS students, faculty and staff while serving as the Security Training Coordinator. She was also commended for serving as education petty officer, assistant command fitness leader and a sexual assault victim advocate. Ingram additionally received the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
