NPS Community Honors Anzac Day During Dawn Ceremony
NPS students, faculty and staff gathered for an early morning remembrance ceremony in honor of Anzac Day, April 25, marking the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) forces in World War I on the Gallipoli Peninsula of Turkey.
Royal Australian Navy Lt. Sam Crawford offered words of gratitude for those who fell in the line of duty, and encouraged those in attendance to honor their sacrifice through their continued service.
"On this day above all days, we recall those who served in war and those who did not return to receive the grateful thanks of their nation," said Crawford. "We recall the staunch friends who served side by side on the first Anzac Day. We remember those who gave their lives in other British commonwealth and allied forces.
"We think of every man and woman who has died so that the lights of freedom and humanity might continue to shine," he continued. "May they all rest proudly in the knowledge of their achievement and we, and our successors, prove worthy of their sacrifices."
