Naval War College Monterey Honors Summer Quarter’s Top JPME Grads

By MC2 Michael Ehrlich

Naval War College (NWC) Monterey students earning academic honors during the fourth quarter of Academic Year 2017 are pictured following a brief ceremony in their honor near the NWC Monterey Program offices in Halligan Hall, October 24, 2017.

Army Maj. Matthew Redmond, far left, earned “With Highest Distinction” honors along with Navy Lt. Kevin Chaney, not pictured, for completing the program in the top five percent of the class.

“The vast array of backgrounds and experiences that each student brings to the classroom is one of the greatest strengths of studying at NPS and in the NWC,” said Redmond. “Working together, we have been able to learn from each other and discover new approaches to tackling problems that we will all bring back to our respective branches of service.”

Graduates earning “With Distinction” honors by completing the JPME program in the top 15 percent of their class are, from second left, Army Majs. Matthew Bauer, Anthony Evans and Chad Klay, and Navy Lt. Cmdr. Reed Kitchen. Also receiving “With Distinction” honors, not pictured, are Navy Lt. Matthew Bouwense and Army Maj. Christopher Coatney.

Through the NPS-NWC partnership, a total of 4,750 officers have earned their Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I certification since the program’s inception in September 1999.
