Monterey Peninsula Celebrates Navy’s 241st Birthday

"The Navy Ball is a great, time-honored tradition that I look forward to every year," said Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) Monterey Commanding Officer Cmdr. Andy Newsome. "This celebration is a time where we as Sailors can enjoy and celebrate with family and friends to remember what the Navy has experienced and accomplished over its 241 years. Happy birthday, Navy!"
The Navy Ball is an annual event celebrating the heritage, history, and more specifically, the day Congress created the United States Navy, Oct. 13, 1775.
The ball began in traditional fashion, with the Defense Language Institute honor guard parading the colors, and the national anthem sung by the Navy choir. Following the presentation and dinner, Ruiz shared a few words with those in attendance.
“It is truly an honor to be here this evening to celebrate the 241st birthday of the United States Navy with all of you,” said Ruiz. “Those here tonight represent the greatest naval force in the world today, and I thank all of you for your service and your unyielding commitment to maintaining this nation’s security, and for those things for which it stands.”
