By MC2 Patrick Dionne

Dr. Michael Parker, U.S. Air Force Chief Information Officer and Deputy Director, Plans and Integration, was presented with the university’s Distinguished Alumni Award by NPS President retired Vice Adm. Ronald A. Route, Jan. 11. Parker is a 2000 graduate of the institution’s information sciences and technology program.

“It’s really quite an honor for me to receive this award today and this opportunity to support the Naval Postgraduate School,” said Parker, who visited NPS to explore possible areas of collaboration. “A lot of great memories come to mind being back here, and it’s really quite a great experience to reconnect and be a part of the future of NPS.”

In his current role with the Air Force, Parker provides policy, guidance and oversight for the development of plans, and the design of future systems, to ensure availability of personnel services for the Air Force warfighter. Additionally, Parker has served within the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management and Comptroller) as the Director of the Financial Systems Division, as well as Branch Chief, Future Plans and Integration Branch, Manpower and Reserve Affairs, Headquarters, U.S. Marine Corps. He retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years of service in 2006.

The NPS Distinguished Alumni Program recognizes any alumnus or alumna who has made distinguished contributions to a branch of learning associated with national security, has rendered distinguished service to some aspect of national security, or has made a distinguished professional achievement that reflects great credit on the recipient and on NPS.
